Borden Park Fireworks Parking / Rochester Hills Fireworks Parking

The city allows for parking at Borden Park but those spots disappear quickly early during the day of the event to people that stake out viewing spots at the park. Parking for the fireworks at Borden Park in Rochester Hills can be difficult as the City of Rochester Hills closes portions of Hamlin Road and limits access on John R Road near Borden Park after the Borden Park parking lot fills up. Fireworks goers can park at nearby shopping center parking lots on Rochester Rd and Hamlin Rd. St. Mary’s of the Hills Church (2675 John R Rd) offers parking for a fee (it’s $10 or under the last I checked). Be prepared to walk if you want to get close to the action. These parking options require a short walk to the park on public sidewalks with the shortest walk being from St Mary’s of the Hills Church.

Getting near the fireworks gets dicey on road approaching Borden Park in the early afternoon.

Starting at 4p, parking will be allowed on Hamlin Road / traffic will be ONE WAY going EAST on John R to Dequindre / going WEST on John R to Rochester Road.

Here is a 2024 parking / road closure map provided by the City of Rochester Hills.

  1. The Fireworks were fantastic as usual, however a damper on good clean family fun was put upon on us from the park’s “parking help” when we were forced to move from one handicapped parking spot to another, and on top of that as we were legally parked in “new”handicapped spot , threaten the police would be called if we did not move again to share the blue shaded area of spot with a non-handicapped vehicle. Mind you we were legally parked with handicapped placard. When looking right across the lane there was a non-handicapped vehicle parked in a handicapped spot with their lawn chairs in the shaded blue area of spot. Go Figure?! Guess politics and Rochester Hills make up their own parking rules and discriminate against the handicap who would like to enjoy the park and fireworks as well.. Good thing all turned out ok. Fireworks were worth the hassle and intimidation.

  2. Rochester Hills Parks and Rec needs to do a better job and thinking ahead for the parking for the people to enjoy the festival and fireworks. This year they changed from previous years and they bombed in the parking. People along with handicapped people in wheel chairs and walkers had to walk at least a half mile to use the one of three inside building restroom stalls large enough for a handicapped person and stand in line for over thirty minutes to access restroom, before facility was available for use. And then they had to walk further to access the festival activities. The City spent thousands of the taxpayers dollars with less and less services for the taxpayers it seems.
