Sweet Potato Dog Treats Recipe
I was happy to discover another treat option for our dog! A local pet store was selling dehydrated sweet potatoes. Our dog can actually tolerate those. They were pretty pricey and not even organic. I figured I could do this one myself as well, and opt for the organic line if I wanted to.
So, I decided to try making these myself using my own Sweet Potato Dog Treats recipe. How hard could it be? Not hard at all, and it’s a lot cheaper.
Sweet Potato Dog Treats Ingredients
- 1 large sweet potato, peeled (organic if preferred)
Homemade Sweet Potato Dog Treats Instructions
Slice the peeled sweet potato into circle slices that are about 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick. Place on a dehydrator tray spaced out without overlapping.
To cook – I cook ours using the dehydrator setting on our toaster oven. Ours allows us to set the temp and time. I set it at 130 degrees for about 13 hours, depending on the thickness. I haven’t experimented with it, but I would think you could also cook the sweet potatoes in the oven at 175 degrees, but not sure how long it would take. If cooking in the oven, try to simulate the dehydrating tray by placing the sweet potatoes on a wire rack and then place the wire rack on a baking sheet lined with foil for easy cleaning.
Once the sweet potato circles are done dehydrating, I store them in a sandwich baggie. No need to refrigerate.
Not that it’s a big deal but… please consult your dog’s vet before giving your dog these sweet potato dog treats using this Homemade Sweet Potato Dog Treats recipe.
