Sy Thai Cafe Birmingham

Sy Thai Cafe Birmingham review, pics, hours, and menu info. Sy Thai is a Thai food restaurant located on Hamilton Row in Birmingham MI. The Sy Thai menu serves up all the traditional Thai entrees like the noodle dishes (Pad Thai, Pad Se’ew, Drunken Noodles), fried rice, curry dishes, Pad Prik, Pad Pak and more. There are even some interesting dishes that I haven’t seen elsewhere like the basil fried rice or the Sy’s fried rice (Thai style fried rice seasoned with curry powder and stir fried with tomato, pineapple, cashews, peas, carrots, onion, green onion and egg), or the Sweet and Sour fish that is topped with bell pepper, cucumber, tomato, pineapple, onion, green onion in a sweet and sour sauce…

Your entree add-in “meat” options include chicken, beef, pork, tofu or vegetables, and for a little more money you can get shrimp, squid, scallops or imitation crab.

The Sy Thai Cafe Birmingham menu is labeled nicely for the food sensitivities. All gluten free items are labeled, and so are the items that can be made vegetarian. They also code the entrees that start off with a mild spice – then you can go up from there with Mild, Medium, Hot, Ex-Hot, and Top of the Line spice options. I did my usual mild/mild plus and it was definitely in line and comparable with the spice I’ve had at other Thai restaurants.

I also loved the selection of beverages. Sy Thai menu lists guava juice, mango juice, Thai tea and coffee, Arnold Palmer, lemonade and pop. Desserts also look very interesting…fried banana rolls served with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with honey, homemade coconut ice cream topped with shredded coconut, homemade mango ice cream, and steamed banana and sticky rice wrapped in a banana leaf.

We did takeout from Sy Thai for lunch and the prices were decent as well as the serving sizes. Both were backed down for the lunch service which is daily from 11a-4p. If you dine it, you get complementary soup.

We enjoyed the flavor of our dishes. And, everything was quite fresh. My daughter didn’t finish hers and it held well for leftovers the day after. Overall, I wouldn’t say it was the best Thai food I’ve had, but a great option when in Birmingham.

Street/metered parking might be scarce, so there’s additional parking behind the restaurant.

Sy Thai offers dine in, carry out, and catering services. The inside is small, but suitable, clean and modernized.
