Online Music Instruction During Covid-19 – Music Maker Studio is offers online music lessons taught by professional instructors in guitar, piano, bass, vocal, drums, banjo, and more. All you need is internet access.
Coronavirus lockdown means more time for kids (and adults) to practice their chosen instrument OR a fantastic opportunity to learn one. Music Maker Studio is closed for their regular lessons, but music lessons are available – all you need is an internet connection.
I had a chance to interview Peter Piwonski, owner of Music Maker Studio about online lessons and how his students are coping with the downtime due to covid-19.
Online Music Instruction During Covid-19
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – What kind of equipment and knowledge are needed to sign up for an online lesson?
Peter Piwonski of Music Maker Studio – A way to connect to the internet…Ipad, Iphone, Computer, Mac or even a phone for Facetime. The zoom app is very easy to use and Facetime is basically just a phone call. The teachers can also show parents and students how to navigate each system. It’s very easy.
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – How much do the online lessons cost?
Peter Piwonski of Music Maker Studio – $22 a half hour. Same as the store, we also have a family discount. 3 or more lessons and the cost is $20 per half hour, per student.
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – What types of lessons are you offering, i.e. which instruments and how many teachers do you have?
Peter Piwonski of Music Maker Studio – We offer Guitar, Piano, Bass, Ukulele, Banjo, Vocal, Drum, Saxophone, Clarinet, and almost every other instrument. We have around 15 teachers.
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – Do you see yourself continuing with online lessons after the pandemic? For sick kids, those that live far, etc
Peter Piwonski of Music Maker Studio – YES! It has been successful so far. We plan to not only continue the lessons but hire new teachers to specifically teach online lessons.
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – Are the kids enjoying the online lessons and having more time to practice because of the outbreak?
Peter Piwonski of Music Maker Studio – They are Loving it. Its definitely different. The students are learning new ways to learn. Like how to write their own music and music theory. The are having fun being more hands on with their lessons and having to do a lot of the writing themselves. All in all the kids (and adults) spirits have been high during their lessons. It’s getting their minds off the crazy situation we are all in. Even for just 30-60 minutes. You can see by the videos, these kids love their music!

Because of the lockdown, my husband has been playing guitar more than ever. He’s been playing since 1986 and his first formal guitar lessons were provided by Peter more than 30 years ago!
