The Waterford sled hill is open from sunrise to sunset daily weather permitting. Waterford Oaks has night sledding from 6p-9p on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays weather permitting.
If you don’t have a sled to use, Oakland County Parks has set up a bin at the top of the sled hill for donated sleds to bother. Every time we have gone there has been at least 1 or 2 donated sleds that people can borrow and use. Feel free to drop a sled off in the bin if you have an extra sled.
The Waterford Oaks sled hill isn’t the fastest or steepest in Oakland County – it’s more of a safe, smooth ride. If you’re looking for bone-jarring sled hills in SE Michigan, you may want to look elsewhere. If your kids are in the 5-11 years old range, this hill may be what you’re looking for. If your kids are younger than 5, there is no secondary or bunny hill at the park but could always just go up half-way or a quarter-way and sled down the hill from there.
The Waterford Oaks sledding hill is has a lot going for it, especially if you’re looking to take the kids sledding. It’s easy to find, parking near the sled hill is convenient and easy, the sled hill area is clearly defined and very safe, and it’s not hard to find the bathrooms at the park. There are port-a-pottys around the parking area but there are better restroom facilities near the Paradise Peninsula Playground and the Platform Tennis courts. Sure, it’s not the fastest sledding hill in Oakland County, but the conveniences make it fun and nighttime sledding is a blast!
