Martin Luther King Day Events 2022 Metro Detroit – Metro Detroit, Michigan events and activities honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. MLK Day 2022 is Monday, January 17. In addition to the celebrations, I’ve also included some school’s out fun things to do for kids.

Community-wide celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. a community-wide celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Operation Cover Me for Grace
Centers of Hope. Theme for 2022 is “Moving Forward”. “If you can’t fly, run. If you can’t walk, crawl, but by all means, keep moving” -Martin Luther King, Jr, 1967. Community Challenge: challenge the citizens of Auburn Hills to commit to taking steps that promote beauty, love, and justice in the community and beyond. Auburn Hills is in need of 1.5-yard sections of fleece to make tie fleece blankets to donate to Grace Centers of Hope. Also, will accept blankets already made. For more info, visit

Southfield Martin Luther King Jr Day Event – MLK Drive for Freedom, Justice & Equity
Hope United Methodist Church (26275 Northwestern Highway, Southfield, MI)
The peace drive gather and depart from Hope United at 9:30a, a virtual program will be available online at 1p. Pre-registration required for 2022. The drive is limited to the first 250 registered vehicles. All participants must pre-register at by Friday, January 7, 2022 or once capacity has been met. The lineup will begin at 9:30a. followed by the drive at 10a. Vehicles should enter from the Civic Center/MLK Drive entrance where they will be directed to line up for the parade. The parade will depart from Hope United at with a route through Southfield that ends at the Southfield Municipal Campus, 26000 Evergreen Road. On January 17, at Royal Oak Middle School, students, staff, and community members are invited to take part in a Day On to honor Dr. King’s legacy. Both Berkley Schools and Royal Oak students are collaborating on this event that will include speakers, the Detroit Youth Choir, testimonials on what Dr. King and his “I have a dream” speech mean to you, and a Freedom March around the school.. Come dressed for the weather and ready to work and build an igloo-style snow fort. No snow? No problem. Create a fort made from other natural materials instead. Deconstruct the fort at the end and talk a bit about “leaving no trace”. A campfire and hot chocolate will also be provided.
