Fire Prevention Week Events 2017 – Oakland County – Fire Prevention Week is October 8 through October 14, 2017. Fire departments and communities across Oakland County will hold open houses, demonstrations, and free family fun events that week (and other dates). This list will also include Oakland County Fire Departments’ events that take place outside of the actual dates of Fire Prevention Week.

Southfield Fire Department Events – Southfield Fire Department Open House
Southfield Fire Headquarters (24477 Lahser Road, Southfield, MI)
The event will feature live demonstrations and displays including simulated fire suppression, emergency rescue techniques such as repelling, distracted driving simulator and an overview of fire trucks and equipment. The open house will also provide hands-on activities for children from operating a real firehose to experiencing superpower eyesight. Kids can also enjoy face painting, a bounce house and food for the whole family, including hamburgers, hotdogs, popcorn, sno-cones and cotton candy. The hands-on event offers attendees an opportunity to operate a fire hose and learn about fire safety. Portable fire extinguisher and DTE Arcs and Sparks demonstrations also will take place during the open house. View an EMS and vehicle extrication display, along with HAZMAT apparatus and equipment. The Beaumont One helicopter will also be at the event. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and view the inside of the helicopter.
