Litter, such as fishing line and plastic bags, is dangerous for wildlife and unsightly to park visitors. Help keep the park beautiful, and safe for people and wildlife! Check in first thing in the morning for area assignment, then meet back at the Activity Center for lunch. Please preregister, 586-463-4332. Brownstown Earth Day Events – Earth Day Clean-Up at Lake Erie

There will be various areas of the park that we will clean up, including picnic areas and the shoreline. At check-in you will receive area assignment. You will receive free daily park entry as a volunteer, lunch and water. Scouts will earn a fun patch too! Clean-up tools and supplies will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own gloves. FREE event. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration required. It’s Earth Day’s 50th Birthday. Come out to the Nature Center to celebrate this momentous occasion. Learn about the origins or Earth Day, and some of the laws that have helped protect our wild places. Then head outside for a hike and talk about what you can do to help keep our planet beautiful. Discuss projects that you can do at home to be a better steward of your yard; such as planting native plants, helping pollinators in our garden, creating a Monarch Waystation, and providing bird nest boxes. The Forestry Division conducts an annual tree-planting ceremony with the Mayor presiding and often a local scouting or youth group in attendance. Different sites are selected each year for the Arbor Day tree; Borden, Spencer, and Avondale Parks, Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farms, Meadow Brook Hall, Eagles Landing, and City Hall grounds have all been chosen in the past.
