Our Favorite Places to See the Fall Colors in Oakland County

Innovation Hills / Rochester Hills
(2800 W Hamlin Road, Rochester Hills, MI 48307)
48 acres of Green Space, ponds, a waterfall, 3 acre modern playground, river views. IH is a top choice for families with small children as many facets of the park aren’t too far of a walk from the parking lot. BONUS – this park is just a few miles from Yates Cider Mill, Rochester Cider Mill, Goodison Cider Mill, and Paint Creek Cider Mill. REVIEW / PICS / INFO

Beech Woods Park / Southfield
(22200 Beech Rd, Southfield, MI 48033)
Picnic tables dot the grounds around the 2 fun playgrounds. It’s not the biggest park but it has the largest, most mature trees in the area that are absolutely beautiful when the colors go off. Out of the all the great, smaller neighborhood parks in Oakland County… Beech Woods is one of our favorites. REVIEW / PICS / INFO

Stony Creek Metro Park / Shelby Twp Kensington Metropark / Milford
(4300 Main Park Rd, Shelby Twp, MI 48316, 586-781-4242, metroparks.com)
(4570 Huron River Parkway, Milford, MI 48380, 810-227-8910, metroparks.com)
I picked the biggest Metroparks in the area because you don’t have to get out of the car if you don’t feel like a hike. The 7 mile plus main park roads provide great views. Both parks feature scenic roads, several picnic areas, their own nature center (both with stunning views), miles & miles of paved & unpaved trails, and bike rentals. Don’t give me grief about SC being Shelby Twp, half of the park is in Oakland County. STONY CREEK REVIEW / PICS / INFOKENSINGTON REVIEW / PICS / INFO

TreeRunner Adventure Park / Rochester TreeRunner Adventure Park / West Bloomfield
(7553 Meadow Brook Road, Rochester, MI, Corner of Walton & Adams (Oakland University Campus) Rochester, MI)
(6600 West Maple Road, West Bloomfield Township, MI 48322)
It’s one thing to SEE the fall colors, it’s another to EXPERIENCE them. Both TreeRunner parks are open until early November and it’s a whole new way to color watch. TreeRunner Rochester REVIEW / PICS INFOTreeRunner WB REVIEW / PICS / INFO

Paint Creek Trail / Bald Mountain Recreation Area / Lake Orion
(1330 E Greenshield Rd, Lake Orion, MI 48360, 248-693-6767, www.dnr.state.mi.us)
4600 acres of land and access to the massive Paint Creek Trail system. Despite being located in Metro Detroit, Bald Mountain Recreation Area is VERY rustic. Just 200 feet in the park and Bald Mountain almost feels like the Upper Peninsula. REVIEW / PICS / INFO

Independence Oaks County Park / Clarkston
(9501 Sashabaw Road, Clarkston, MI 48348, www.OaklandCountyParks.com)
Back in the day, we asked readers to send us their favorite Fall Foliage in Oakland County Pics. Every year without fail, half of our entries would come from Independence Oaks. It has 12 miles trails (including the 2.5 paved River Loop), playgrounds, lake views, and the awesome Wint Nature Center. PRO TIP – Enjoy a picnic lunch (or cider & donuts) at the Twin Chimney Shelter on Crooked Lake. REVIEW / PICS / INFO

Metro Detroit Nature Centers
These are our favorite Metro Detroit Centers. They’re fun, educational, and they find the best views for you. REVIEWS / PICS / INFO
