There are plenty of fun things to do in and around Metro Detroit this weekend. This list will try to highlight some of the weekend events Metro Detroit – big and small – for kids and families. Bloomfield Hills Weekend Events – Cranbrook King Tut Exhibit

The exhibit includes exact replicas from the Pharaoh’s Tomb and legendary treasures. The collection of Tutankhamun replicas of the richest archaeological find of all time took 10 years to recreate. Open Tu-Sun through September 3. Review, pics, more info

Southfield Weekend Events – Arbor Day Tree Planting
McIntyre Elementary School (19600 Saratoga Boulevard
The City will plant several trees, rain or shine, at the school following a brief ceremony with Councilman Ken Siver, Principal Kimberly Beckwith, teachers and students. The city of Southfield has a long history of preserving green spaces and enacting ordinances that protect the environment.

Rochester Hills Earth Day Event – Arbor Day Commemorative Tree Planting
Meadow Brook Hall
The Forestry Division conducts an annual tree-planting ceremony with the Mayor presiding and often a local scouting or youth group in attendance. Different sites are selected each year for the Arbor Day tree; Borden, Spencer, and Avondale Parks, Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farms, Meadow Brook Hall, and City Hall grounds have all been chosen in the past.

The Detroit Institute of Arts is offering free bus transportation to the DIA from 6 Oakland County Locations. Visitors can browse the DIA, view exhibitions, participate in an art-making activity and/or enjoy the DIA’s two restaurants. Think of it as an “old-school” school field trip! The lights are out and the lasers are on. Pizza is served around 10p and a dodgeball tournament is held for everyone who wants to compete. Includes pizza, glow stick, and access to all attractions. Teen Nights is not held during summer months or on holidays. For kids ages 13-18. Cost is $15 per jumper.
