Flint Area Weekend Events –  Robot Zoo Exhibit

5,000 square foot exhibit that uses biomechanics of complex animal robots to demonstrate how real animals work. The larger-than-life-size animated robots include a chameleon, a rhinoceros, a giant squid with 18-foot tentacles, and a platypus. Also featured are a house fly with a 10-foot wingspread, a grasshopper, a bat, and a giraffe. Animation in the robots imitates real-life behaviors. Open through September 8. Review / Pics / Video

Bloomfield Hills Weekend Events – Doom of the Dinosaurs Exhibit

Family-friendly, interactive exhibit! The Cranbrook Institute of Science Dinosaurs Exhibit tells the story of the Earth’s past mass extinctions and explores the prehistoric times when dinosaurs ruled the land. Children will enjoy activities created just for them. Visitors will see full-size dinosaur skeletons, including Tyrannosaurus Rex and Edmontosaurus, and walk through the five large-scale mass extinctions that occurred over the last 500 million years. Farmington Hills Weekend Event – Full Moon Friday Night Hike
Heritage Park Nature Center (24915 Farmington Road, Farmington Hills, MI)
Enjoy the evening air as you head into Heritage Park after dark at a Full Moon Friday Night Hike. Listen for nocturnal animals, observe the night sky, and heighten your senses along the way. Cost is $3 per person. You can pay in person or pre-register at The Costick Center or by calling 248-477-1135. You can also pay at the door but space is limited. Hike will be cancelled in case of inclement weather.

Try your hand at throwing out a line –bait and poles will be available for use, with instructors nearby for support. This is the DNR’s free fishing weekend, so no license is needed. There will also be a kid’s craft, mini-ponds, bait casting and fly-tying activities. Bring a light-colored T-shirt for fish printing. $7/person. Pre-registration with payment required.
