There are plenty of fun things to do in and around Metro Detroit this weekend. This list will try to highlight some of the weekend events Metro Detroit – big and small – for kids and families. We’re going to be using this Weekend Events Metro Detroit article ALL YEAR to post events and activities that are either FREE, or at least family affordable. Bloomfield Hills Weekend Events – Robot Revolution Exhibit
Cranbrook Institute of Science (39221 Woodward Ave, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304)
The robots featured in the exhibit have been used in space, ocean and planetary exploration, as well as movies. Visitors can expect to test their robotic skills and walk away with a deeper understanding of the next generation of robotic innovators and inventors. The exhibits are real technological devices and fully usable by the public and interactive. Some of the interactive elements are unique to an extent never done before in a traveling exhibition. The activities are adaptable to all ages and skills. The exhibition is open to the public during regular museum hours and FREE with paid admission. Exhibit runs until July 3, 2020. 80 of the top artists from Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin will be on hand for the annual Spring Fling Handmade Market. One of the longest running and most renowned art and craft markets in Michigan, the Spring Fling is your opportunity to stock up on Easter gifts, spring home decor, apparel, jewelry, specialty food and more. $3 admission. Northville Weekend Events – Vernal Equinox Hike

All ages are welcome for a guided evening hike. Meet at the Trailhead Building, accessible from the 8 Mile Road entrance. Light snacks provided afterwards. Headlamps with red lights are suggested. Take a guided tour through the sugar bush of the Stage Nature Center to discover how maple trees make sugar and how people have harvested it through the ages. This family-friendly program highlights natural and local history of our region. Tour includes a visit to the sugar shed to see a wood-stoked evaporator in action and activities to learn more about syrup making. Everyone will sample maple treats and children will have an opportunity to make a simple craft. Shop for Michigan-made maple syrup, cream, candy and more. Learn the history of sugaring and how to identify maple trees. Guided hike into the spring woods to tap a maple tree. Milford Weekend Events – Maple’s Sweet Story

Take a guided walk through the farm’s Sugar Bush. Learn how to pick the right tree, then watch how maple trees are tapped and sap is collected. Stop by the French and Native camp to hear and see how these techniques have changed through the years. Then visit the Sugar Shack to see and smell the sap being boiled down into maple sugar. Taste a sample of maple syrup at the end of the tour. Real maple sugar products and pancakes will be available for purchase. Tours begin every ½ hour, last approximately one hour and are entirely outdoors. Dress for the weather. $3 per child, $5 per adult, children under two are FREE. All Ages. Northville Twp Weekend Events – Making Maple Syrup Tours
Maybury Farm (50165 Eight Mile approximately 1 ¼ miles west of Beck, Northville Twp, MI 48167)
Take a hayride to the Maple tree grove, tap the trees, bring sap back to evaporator and watch how maple syrup is made. Your family will not only see all of the steps in producing maple syrup but they will also take part in the process. Maple syrup and maple syrup products for purchase in the General Store in the Welcome Center. Dress warmly and boots are a must. Call 248-374-0200 for cost info and registration info.
