Valentine’s Day Weekend Events 2021 – Valentine’s Day weekend events and fun things to do in Metro Detroit MI for families February 11, 12, 13, & 14, 2021.

There are plenty of fun things to do in and around Metro Detroit this Valentine’s Day weekend. This list will try to highlight some of the Metro Detroit weekend events – big and small – for kids and families. I’m going to be using this article to post events and activities that are either free, or at least family affordable.

Madison Hts Weekend Events – Homeschool Program – Animal Tracks
Red Oaks Nature Center  (30300 Hales Street, Madison Hts, MI 48071, 248-585-0100)
Become a habitat scene investigator. Learn about tracks and signs and discover the stories that animals leave behind. Each homeschool program is adapted for ages 5-9 and ages 10-17. Pre-registration is required; call 248-858-0916 on weekdays during regular business hours; no on-site registration will be available. Sessions are designed as drop-off programs for youth. Sessions run 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. All students are welcome, whether from a traditional homeschool, pod or virtual learning setting. A release form must be completed with registration. Cost: $10/session. Programs may take place outdoors – under a tent or on a trail. A water bottle and outdoor dress are recommended. Masks are encouraged for all trail programs and required for programs conducted under the tent. Hosted by Oakland County Parks and Recreation.

Armada Valentine’s Day Weekend Events – Blake’s Winter Wonderland Outdoor Skating

Check out Blake’s Winter Wonderland and their newly designed 2,000+ sq foot synthetic ice rink and surrounding warming area, outdoor bar, and outdoor dining igloos. You can purchase 50-minute blocks of skating time on their website through advanced sales. Walk-up tickets may be available on skating days if there is availability and if capacity limits for the rink are not reached. Skate rental is also available. Wixom hosts Open Skate Nights on Thursdays in January & February, weather permitting, from 5p-8p.  Ice skating is FREE. Bring your own skates. For more info, call 248-624-4557. Hosted by the City of Wixom.

Bloomfield Hills Weekend Events – Bower Farms Winter Park

Skating – Weather permitting and bring your own skates. Skating is FREE. Winter Park has much to offer including tubing and glow tubing (appointments required), ice skating (weather permitting, bring your own skates), hot cocoa, bonfires, food at the Farmers Kitchen and more. Tubing (unfortunately) isn’t FREE and you have to pre-register which takes the starch out of a spur-of-the-moment experience. Tubing rates are by the hour and you must register for a time slot. Most, if not all, tubing slots have been sold out but you can check.

Detroit Valentine’s Day Weekend Events – Monroe St Drive In Powered by Emagine Theatre
Monroe St Drive In (32 Monroe Street, Detroit, MI 48226)
Monroe Street Drive-In Powered By Emagine will feature a 60×32 ft digital projection screen. Showtimes every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7p. All showtimes and programming will be managed by Emagine Entertainment and the site will include parking for up to 65 vehicles including outdoor seating, pedestrian paths, concession pavilions and lighting, and warming areas. Tickets are $20 per vehicle and can be purchased at emagine-entertainment.com. Additionally, tickets can be purchased in-person at the Monroe Street Drive-In Powered By Emagine when gates open at 6p. Dexter Weekend Events – The Science of Sledding

Why doesn’t your sled keep moving? We’ll get on the sledding hill to test friction and the materials that make for a slow or fast sled. In this hands-on activity, you will receive a supply packet with materials to test the science of sledding. You will design a miniature sled to carry a specific weight down the hill. Will your miniature sled be fast, slow or somewhere in-between? Bring your own sled to go sledding after you learn about the science of sledding. If there is more than one person in your group, you have the option to buying one packet for the entire group, or a packet per person. All materials will be supplied. This program is held entirely outdoors and is snow dependent. Social distancing and face coverings are required. Ages 8+. $6 per packet. As the weather changes, so do the birds that can be found throughout Lake Erie Metropark. Hit the nature trails to see which birds have staked their claim to the wilds of Lake Erie Metropark during the winter. Bring your binoculars. $3 per child, $5 per adult, children under 2 FREE. Troy Weekend Events – Family Time at the Troy Community Center

Come spend an hour of time with your family at the Community Center. Household members only can reserve one-half of the north gym court for one half-hour at the Community Center and enjoy another half-hour in the pool. Slides not available except for Kiddie Slide. Times are staggered to allow for social distancing. Masks required at all times, except while swimming. $10 residents, $13 non-residents per household family member. Registration includes a $20/$26 deposit, which will reserve your spot. This deposit will go toward your final payment for all family members on the day of the event (credit card only). Rochester Hills Weekend Events – Snow the Love Scavenger Hunt

Hosted by Rainbow Connection. A colorful scavenger hunt benefitting The Rainbow Connection, a nonprofit that grants wishes to Michigan children with a life-threatening illness. Families can participate for a $5 donation then sleuth their way through The Village looking for items. The first 100 families that complete the hunt will receive a children’s book (Love, From the Crayons), a bundtlet and more surprises. No registration necessary.

Ages 18+. Take a guided snowshoe hike through the snow covered forest with your valentine. Listen to the crunch of snow and maybe even the hoot of owls, while you experience the magic of a winter walk. After exploring the forest with your sweetie, get cozy by the campfire and roast a s’more while the Naturalist teaches you the love language of a variety of animals. Snowshoes are provided. No snowshoe experience is needed. A hike will be substituted if there is not enough snow to use snowshoes. We will remain outdoors for the entire program and social distancing will be required between groups. Fee is per person. Register early, this event sells out every year!
